(or things I never travel without)

2. Notebooks: big, small, medium (one digital)

3. Scrapbook, gluestick, scissors

4. Collecting bag

5. Pens, pastels, paints, crayons

6. Your three favorite writers

Daily warm up tips!

Sit somewhere you can see nature;  in a garden, park, near a window, on a train station.

Open all your senses and observe. Mentally take note of the tiniest details. become like a magnifying glass. When you feel the impulse, start to write. Keep writing for ten minutes without thinking, censoring, editing or crossing out.

Do this every day or every second day. In the mornings is a good time. It’s a great way to open the door to creative possibilities.  Keep the door open a tad, like a window on your computer screen and return to jot, peek or make notes even through out the busiest day.

Lists - every traveller needs them

When you don’t feel like writing, make a list. You can write a whole book this way. I am writing a memoir of my childhood days as a list. When I get to the end I’ll start writing it.

Shoes

Not just your own. Try stepping into another’s shoes for  a day and take notes as you go.

Change of underwear

Sometimes when you get stuck, you just need to freshen up. Try on a pair you don’t usually wear - your brother’s, your friend’s, your father’s. your mother’s. Jot down how that feels! (Editor’s note: Do make sure they’re clean!)

Toiletries

Toothpaste is the most important, but imagine what you would do if you forgot it and every shop had run out. Imagine and take notes.

Vitamins

You need to look after yourself when you step on the writers journey.  Get enough sleep, set a consistent pattern, remember to take your vitamins! One day you may be flying high and think you are the greatest writer that ever was. The next day you feel like crap. It’s all part of the journey.

Continue this list at your leisure. Put it on the wall where you can see it every day. Write down all the things YOU need for YOUR writers journey and let’s get started!
