Time to write

IMG_9836You often hear people say “when I get some time off I will start work on my book”. You never hear published writers say this — even though most writers have full time or part time jobs they still find time to write. So how do they do it? Making time in your day for cleaning your teeth, drinking coffee, reading the newspaper, is no problem, but when it comes to making a habit of opening up your writing notebooks, we seem to draw the line. There may be a number or reasons but the most convincing one is — what can I possibly achive in 10 – 15 minutes? I need to wait until I have more time.

What if you made a committment to write for 10 mins per day, that’s 500 words a day, that’s 3500 words a week,  that’s 182,000 words a year! Even if you only managed 200 words per day you still end up with 72,800 words a year, which is enough for a decent sized book.

Mind boggling yes?

So make a pact now to spend some time each day on your writing; maybe 10 mins, maybe half an hour maybe an hour. Turn it into your sneaky pleasure,  your time away from the humdrum of daily life, time just for you to get intimate with the page.

Start today, set an amount of time and do it. You will feel so good if you do. After all isn’t writing all we ever want to do. So stop denying yourself that pleasure and indulge!
